We must be grateful!

Have you been watching the news? What is going on in Japan right now is unimaginable and unbelievable. I watch CNN at night and I can’t get over the video footage and the pictures. There are people standing in lines waiting for water and food because their homes are completely washed away. I can’t begin to even wrap my head around that. Their homes are GONE. Not to mention the loss of so many lives. So many innocent, good, amazing people……who are someones Dad, Mom, Brother, Sister, Grandparents.

We have so much to be grateful for living in this wonderful country Canada. We have clean water. We have clean air to breathe. We have grocery stores on every corner. We have the freedom to walk around the block of our homes safely. We are blessed in so many ways.

While reading “The Secret”, there is a chapter about being thankful. One gentleman in the book does a “Thank you” ritual every single morning and I have adopted it. I start as soon as I get up in the morning and put my feet on the floor. I thank God for a good nights rest, and for waking up in the morning. I thank him for my working legs and arms. I thank him for the sun that was shining this morning. I thank him for my eyes so I can see. I thank him for a hot shower. I thank him for toothpaste. I thank him for clean water. I thank him for my family and husband and my friends. Once you start the list is endless, it’s amazing how many things you are thankful for that comes to your mind. I have been doing this for about 3 weeks now, and I have to say it makes a difference in my mornings. It wakes up my brain to what is what and how lucky, blessed and wonderful my life is.

What am I most grateful for? My husband is on the top of that list. This past few months have been a personal struggle for me. He has been my rock. He has hugged me & listened to me. He holds me at night when we are in bed & I need to feel secure. He has stood by me when I am shaky and he continues to stand by my side daily. Next to my husband, I am very grateful for my family. I am blessed to have wonderful siblings and the most amazing parents. When I was young my parents divorced and my Mom married an amazing man.....my step dad. I am grateful to him for taking me in and calling me his daughter. I am grateful for my Mom who is one of the most loving people I know and I am grateful for my Dad who has a heart of gold.

I am grateful for a fridge full of good food and clean water that runs from my taps. Every day I can eat what I want and know that it is clean, good for me and healthy. I can drink a tall glass of water to hydrate and know it’s not full of deadly bacteria’s. I am grateful for hydro that runs my appliances so i can cook dinner and wash/dry my clothes. I am grateful for gas that keeps my furnace running in the cold months.

I am grateful for my car that gets me to my appointments, to my job, to the store, to visit my family and to church on Sundays. I am grateful that we can buy gas to fill our cars so that we can go anywhere we want to go to.

I am grateful for my home that keeps me safe from the elements and keeps me warm at night. I am grateful for my kitchen table so that my family can sit around it and ejoy eachothers company. I am grateful for my backyard that has a deck with lawn chairs that I can sit on and enjoy fresh air in the warmer months. I am grateful to our vegetable garden that grows fresh, organic food for us. I am grateful for good neighbors that we have become friends with and can share a cold drink with on a hot summers night.

I am grateful for my health. So many people in this world suffer with such terrible pain, illness and chronic ailments. I am blessed to be healthy and strong. I have so many blessings and counting them each day keeps me grateful and keeps life in perspective.

What are you grateful for?
I challenge you to start your own morning “Thank you” ritual. Tell me how you feel after a week or two of doing it, you will feel good, I am sure of it!

When I'm worried and I can't sleep
I count my blessings instead of sheep
And I fall asleep
Counting my blessings

When my bankroll is getting small
I think of when I had none at all
And I fall asleep
Counting my blessings

I think about a nursery and I picture curly heads
And one by one I count them as they slumber in their beds

If you're worried and you can't sleep
Just count your blessings instead of sheep
And you'll fall asleep
Counting your blessings
