Wow ! we are breaking records this week in our summer heat! and today i think if we get to 38' the radio DJ said it will be a new record. I was sitting at the office this morning wondering how i could stay cool later on today if we were to head outside after dinner. My hubby works physically hard at his job and when he gets home the last thing he wants to do is sit outside in this ridiculous heat.
So what to do?
Well i bought a blow up kiddie pool! yes i did! its one foot tall and 60" wide..... and its hot pink. As i was driving home from the store, i was laughing at myself out loud, thinking that we might look funny sitting on our deck in a kiddie pool. But guess what? I dont care! I am going to sit in it, stay cool and enjoy the cold water.
I was actually laughing as I got home and opened the package. Hmmmm it has to be blown up. There is no way i was blowing the edges up with my own hot air, regardless of how small this thing is. My first thought was to use the balloon blower upper thingy, you know the one that has a point on one end, and you push it in and out on the other end? But man that was going to make me sweat too much too! And the whole purpose of the kiddie pool is to cool off, not get hotter! So then i remembered my husband has a compressor out in the garage, I have seen him use it before, should be a piece of cake......so off i went to blow up the pool.
Ok not such an easy feat. First off i dont know where the on/off switch is. Secondly you have to put this adapter thingy on the end so that there is a pointy end to stick into the pool. Technical terminology eh?
So here I was standing in the hot garage, looking at this adapter thingy and trying to jam it into the hose of the compressor. It just wouldnt go in no matter how hard I tried. I didnt want to call my husband, since this is going to be his big surprise after work.
I imagine the conversation to go something like this
Me:"Surprise i bought us a kiddie pool!"
Hubby :"you actually paid money for that?"
Me: "shut up and get in it and cool off"
Hubby: "how do you plan to empty that since its on the deck?"
Me: " ummmm with a bucket?" so much for lovely dovey eh?
As i was struggling to figure this out, I thought to myself, I have a university and college education, i have to be able to figure out how to put an adapter onto the end of a stinkin hose. And holy cow much to my amazement i figured it out. Not too get to technical on you, since my jargon is so amazing i know, but i had to pull this other thingy down and then jam the adapter in. Done. I had broken into a sweat at this point of my adventure and i hadnt even blown the darn pool up yet!
So finally once I was ready to go, i realized i still dont know how to turn on the compressor. Damn! but miraculously there was air in the hose? when i pushed the lever down air come out. So before i wasted anymore air, i filled up the pool. Success! I carried the pool out to my deck and dropped the hose into it , and in less than 10 minutes i had filled it up. It is now sitting out there warming up a bit and waiting for my husband to arrive so he can laugh at me!
I will let you know tomorrow how much fun we had!
Have a good night and stay cool !
