Get your "camp" on !

Happy Canada day!

Well we loaded up and hit the road to Watkins Glen KOA.  We have a friend who goes there and told us it is a great camp ground with lots to do in the small finger lakes town.  There is a state park, wineries, glass museum, race track, shopping, mini putt and go karts.  You won't be bored.

Friday night we arrived around 9pm at the campground, found our site and groaned as we heard loud hard rock music coming from a car across the way.  Why us ? We set up as quickly as we could before we lost all of our light.  The beauty of having a camper is the set up is much faster than a tent and for that I am grateful.  Half way through setting up the nasty music came to an end.   Thankfully.

Once we were settled we grabbed drinks and a flashlight and went for a walk through the campground.  It was really big and took us close to half an hour to walk all the way around.  We headed back to the site and sat out in the mild evening weather.

Saturday morning we got up decided to head into town to see what ere was to do.   First we found a Walmart.  Always gotta go to Walmart. Haha !  I took a chance and asked the cashier if she knows of any good BBQ places to eat, she recommended a new restaurant in town but the man behind us in line recommended a place farther down the road , in a tire shop parking lot ? You know me, for good American BBQ, I will go just about anywhere.  So off we went.  Sure enough in front of a garage and tire shop in the parking lot was the most Devine smelling BBQ pit made of cement blocks cooking up ribs, chicken and pulled pork.  Yes please! I had pork on a roll with side of beans and coleslaw.  I was not disappointed.  No mam.  I ate it all......... Well almost all of it.  Hubby finished his ! We then headed back to the downtown strip and walked our feast off.  We battled rain on and off but that never stops true campers!

We had dinner on the fire and made corn. Soooo good! Secret to good fire corn? Soak em in water with the husks on all afternoon.  Then we treated ourselves to pie iron apple pies for dessert.  YUM !

Sunday we got up early and headed to Watkins Glen state park.  What a treat.  $8 for a car load.  In our case was just two of us, but a great deal for a family.   We walked the gorge which is approximately 2 miles.  We saw wonderful waterfalls and battled the crazy tourists.  Who stops in the middle of a path when there are troops of people behind you? Grrrrrr! Keep walking people! Once we reached the top we took a wooded path back down to the main entrance.  So serene.  Barely any people on the path.  And we saw these cool rock tables.  Must have been a camp ground at one time? Who knows?,

On the menu for night two was steaks over mesquite charcoal.  What a feast.  We did have some thunder and  rain after dinner, so we headed to the indoor pool for some cooling off.   Great day!

Oh remember that loud car blaring their music all day ? Well we complained about the campers Saturday morning cause they kept us up friday night with their drunken foolery until 1am.   Always has to be that one , hi pitched dumb-ass drunk woman screetching !! So on Saturday night around 11 after their yippeeeee dig has barked  for the 50th time, hubby jumped out of bed , threw on his shorts ( thankfully he remembered in his fit of rage ) and went out and yelled at them to "shut up their dog,and keep it down ! there are more people in the park then just them "  to which he was told to "relax ".  How do you think that argument ended ? Haha ! Lets just say we won.

So a few more camping weekends planned.  Next time I am bringing pizza fixings to do on the open fire.  I also forgot a bucket to wash the camper floor.    All in all Awesome long weekend and can't wait to go back!  I hope you get to go camping this summer.  It's so much fun!
